With St. Patrick’s Day fast approaching, it is time to get your green on and celebrate the Irish holiday in true style.

And while one in ten pints sold in the UK is a Guinness these days, the price of the black stuff varies considerably depending on where you are in the country and exactly which pub you choose to sup it in.

So, which UK city offers the cheapest pint of Guinness? To find out, the experts at the price comparison site Idealo have analysed pint prices across a variety of pubs in top UK cities, calculating an average to reveal the cheapest places to enjoy a Guinness this St. Patrick’s Day.

But before the big reveal, any decent landlord will tell you it isn’t just about the price, it’s about the pour. The proper pour is integral to the Guinness experience, impacting everything from the taste to the presentation. It’s all about the famed two-part pour, a process requiring the ultimate blend of patience and precision. You see, a beautifully poured Guinness isn’t just a drink; it’s a masterpiece. Anyway….drum roll….

Don’t miss…

Overall Milton Keynes came in first with the average cost of a pint of Guinness coming in at £4.11 followed by Nottingham at £4.32, Dundee and Wolverhampton at £4.38, Sheffield at £4.47, Southampton at £4.50, Luton at £4.51, Leicester at £4.53, Swansea at £4.55 and Coventry at £4.58 making up the top ten.

It may come as no surprise that London tops the list as the most expensive UK city for a pint of Guinness, with an average cost of £5.87, but often it’s way over £6. The most expensive Guinness in London we could find was an eye-watering £8 in 1 Lombard Street Bar & Restaurant Bank, closely followed by Boisdale of Belgravia, which boasts a £7.90 price tag.

Making up the top ten most expensive UK cities to get a pint of Guinness, according to Idealo’s findings, was Cambridge in second at £5.66. Bath was the third most expensive city at £5.41, followed by Edinburgh at £5.18, Oxford at £5.08, Exeter at £5.08, Bristol at £5.04, Leeds at £4.99, Birmingham at £4.93 and Brighton at £4.91.

However, Guinness fans who really want to save some money are probably best off heading to their local Wetherspoons as the pub giant is putting together plans to mark the cultural holiday on March 17. The price of a pint of Guinness is set to drop from £3.60 to £3.15 in over 670 of their pubs.

In Wetherspoon’s Scottish pubs, which do not offer the Monday Club prices, a pint of Guinness will be available from £2.99 to mark St Patrick’s Day. All the blarney in Ireland can’t argue with that price!
