Origins is ready to premiere in the UK, five months after initially launching in America.
, who played Agent Gibbs for an impressive 18 years, bid farewell to the role in 2021.
While Gibbs was often reticent about his past, viewers will now have the opportunity to delve into the early days of the seasoned agent’s career when he joined NCIS in the 1990s.
As we eagerly await the UK release of the prequel, here’s everything you need to know about the cast of NCIS Origins.
Agent Gibbs – Austin Stowell
Austin Stowell will be stepping into the shoes of Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs.
When NCIS Origins begins, Gibbs is still grappling with PTSD following the murder of his wife Shannon and daughter Kelly by drug cartel leader Pedro Hernandez (played by Thomas Rosales Jr).
Fans are accustomed to seeing Gibbs in charge, but this will be the first time they witness him learning the ropes.
Playing Gibbs is actor Austin Stowell who is best known for his roles in Dolphin Story alongside Morgan Freeman in 2011, Whiplash, Bridge of Spies and The Hating Game with Lucy Hale.

Special Agent Mike Franks – Kyle Schmid
Kyle Schmid will play Special Agent Mike Franks, the leader of the Camp Pendleton Field Office where Gibbs began his career, making him Gibbs’ superior.
Muse Watson’s portrayal of Mike Franks in the original NCIS series saw him assisting with investigations until his character met a tragic end at the hands of serial killer Jonas Cobb (played by Kerr Smith) during the eighth season.
The role of a younger Mike Franks will be taken on by Kyle Schmid who may be remembered as Henry Durham in ‘s Being Human and Robert Morehouse in Copper.
Some of his other parts in Big Sky, The Covenant, Six, and The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants.
Special Agent Lala Dominguez – Mariel Morino
In the prequel, Special Agent Lala Dominguez is brought to life by actress Mariel Morino, whose first acting gig was as a cheerio in Fox’s Glee back in 2015.
She has since appeared as Carmen Sandoval in ABC’s The Promised Land and Elena Santos in Freeform’s The Watchful Eye in 2023.
Morino’s character, Dominguez, is described as a “tough, vulnerable and observant former Marine with a dark sense of humour”, eager to prove herself in a male-dominated environment and working closely with Gibbs.

Special Agent Vera Strickland – Diany Rodriguez
Diany Rodriguez steps into the shoes of Special Agent Vera Strickland, who fans of the original NCIS will remember from her debut in season 11, episode three’s Under The Radar.
Vera is notable for being Mike Franks’ last partner before his retirement in 1996, and Rodriguez takes over the role for the prequel series.
Throughout her career, she has appeared in several notable series, including The Outsider, Twisted Metal, and The Blacklist, in addition to blockbuster films like Pitch Perfect 3 and The Suicide Squad.
Officer Mary Jo Sullivan – Tyla Abercrumbie
Actress Tyla Abercrumbie, who describes herself as the “head secretary in charge”, brings field operation support officer Mary Jo Sullivan to life.
Abercrumbie is most notable for her six-season stint as Nina Williams in The Chi.
She has also played Tamara Folsom in 2019’s Proven Innocent and Patty in 2020’s Utopia.
NCIS Origins premieres on Thursday, March 13, on Paramount+ in the UK.
