A professional cleaner has shared her secret hack to get rid of mould in your bathroom in ‘under three minutes’ by only using natural products.
Sheridan is the owner on Citrus Keeping, an Australia-based housekeeping company. She often shares her best tips on keeping your house clean, including sharing her go-to method to get rid of mould in bathrooms.
“Here’s my ride or die method for mould in under three minutes,” Sheridan said at the start of her video. “Now for whatever reason the mould is now in your shower, I want you to know that it is so normal. Mould is a part of nature, but we just don’t need those mycotoxins in our living spaces.”
She went on to share how she creates her own ” in order to get rid of any mould in a bathroom.
To make this spray, she told viewers to mix one cup of water, two cups of , 10 drops tea tree oil and five drops clove oil into an empty spray bottle. If you or anyone in your household is pregnant or on a septic system, she went on to explain that you should just use the water and the vinegar.
“You will have just made yourself the most effective, powerful, natural mould killing spray there is,” Sheridan said, before continuing to say that you should spray the mix onto the affected mouldy areas in your bathroom without wetting it first.
She explained: “The vinegar is a well-known antimicrobial, then your tea tree and your clove oils are there to exacerbate that potency and allow for deeper penetration into the porous grout.”
Sheridan then said to leave that to work its magic for 20 minutes while cleaning the rest of your bathroom before coming back to rinse it off with cold water, explaining: “Please make sure you use cold water when you’re dealing with mould, especially because hot water will lift particles, including mould spores, into the air via the steam, and you end up breathing so much more in.”
After everything is rinsed, she goes back to scrub the grout and anywhere else you can see mould by using a toothbrush and dish soap. She said: “Now because the cells of the spores have already been disrupted, they’re not active anymore. So the aim of this step is really just to remove the remnants of the mould and make your bathroom look really fresh and clean.”
After that, she takes a non-scratch sponge to scrub off any remainding mould with dish soap, explaing to make sure to look out for any orange areas.
“Now, orange is kind of like a traffic light system when it comes to mould, right,” she said. So if you see any orange, it means you need to slow down your life routine and come and clean your shower, because orange is a precursor to black mould.”
If you can see any mould residue or stains, Sheridan said that this is the only time in her cleaning business that she’ll use bleach.
She folded toilet paper to fit over the stain before spraying bleach onto it, making sure the paper sticks to the area. She then leaves it for five to ten minutes before coming back and peeling off the paper and rinsing the area with water.
“And there you have my step by step instructions to have a mould free, healthy shower,” she said.
