Fox Business Host Blasts Trump Administration For Dodging Questions On Economy

Fox Business co-host Dagen McDowell tore into the Trump administration this week for ignoring her network’s requests at a time when many viewers are seeking clarification on the economy as fears of a recession rise.

On Wednesday’s installment of “The Big Money Show,” McDowell offered a fiery rebuke of Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and other officials, who she claims have not responded to her inquiries in recent weeks.

“Some of the people in communications at the White House, in the Treasury, will not respond to the show trying to just book anybody to talk about this economy,” she said. “They won’t even answer the show, but Scott Bessent goes on one of the lowest rated shows on another network.”

McDowell was seemingly alluding to Bessent’s March 2 appearance on CBS News’ “Face the Nation,” and suggested the secretary “could open the window and shout out of the window in New York City” and reach more viewers.

The journalist went on to note: “If they want to communicate with the American people … the people who work for these Treasury Secretaries need to answer a text message. It’s shameful.”

McDowell’s remarks come amid a turbulent week at the stock market, triggered in part by government layoffs, spending freezes, and President Donald Trump’s imposed tariffs on aluminum and steel imports. Trump, meanwhile, has declined to rule out the possibility that his policies could trigger a recession, noting: “There is a period of transition, because what we’re doing is very big.”

Appearing on NewsNation’s “On Balance” Monday, former Fox News host Bill O’Reilly also called on the Trump administration to improve its economic messaging.

“I think he should be concerned with the fear factor, certainly, and he should be looking to reassure Americans,” O’Reilly said. “I don’t know if that would have any kind of immediate soothing formula, but you have to calm everything down and then you have to explain.”
