Flawless Salma Hayek shows age is no barrier to success.

The screen siren has been one of ’s hottest properties for almost 40 years.

Since her breakout role as the bookstore owner Carolina in the 1995 cult classic Desperado the Mexican-born femme fatale has become one of the most successful actresses of all time and to her army of fans will be forever young.

Now aged 58 is the mum-of-one – married to French businessman François-Henri Pinault – worried her star is fading? Not a bit of it. It’s just a bit more recognition, for her and all the sisters doing it for themselves would be nice.

She said: “There was a time when I was the sexy girl, but thank God age came and gave me the ability to expand to other territories. Although I’m still sexy and I embrace it. Another calling that I have is to remind everyone that women are not disposable after a certain age in any department. We should battle that with all we’ve got.”

Hayek starred in From Dusk till Dawn the 1996 American western horror film written by Quentin Tarantino alongside Harvey Keitel, , Tarantino, Ernest Liu and Juliette Lewis.

And her portrayal of painter Frida Kahlo in the 2002 biopic Frida made her the first Mexican actress to be nominated for a Best Actress Oscar.

But she says she has never fully received the credit she deserves.

Speaking to Marie Claire as this month’s cover star, she said: “[When a film is successful] the credit goes to the man. The girl is just the girl. I do have an audience and they go see me. But I’ve never gotten credit for the audience I bring into the cinema.”

The Marie Claire Craftsmanship issue is out on March 18.
