Corrie’s Jack P Shepherd lets slip soap future as he admits contract ‘is up this year’

’s star Jack P Shepherd has opened up about his future on the soap following the plethora of exits from his co-stars. The 37-year-old has been playing David Platt in the ITV beloved soap since joining as David Platt in 2000. Ahead of his milestone 25th anniversary in Weatherfield, the actor shared his position on the show and revealed that he was initially hired for a temporary role.

He reflected: “I was only in the show three months originally, and then they just kept on sort of ringing my mum up, and my agent saying, ‘Yeah, we’ll extend it.’ So, yeah, 25 years is a long time, I think, for anyone. But I get year contracts now; I don’t get three-month ones. Jack added: “So, I’m only ever here for, like, another year, so. It runs out this year, so they might not continue it!”

The soap star admitted: “They might go with someone else, but I’m still enjoying it.”

Jack addressed whether he’d stay for another 25 years or stick with year-long contracts as he continued: “I think a contract at a time. You know where you are then.

“I think if they were to say… Well, they couldn’t promise that, could they? They couldn’t promise a 25-year contract. They don’t know what’s going to happen.

“So, I think it works in both of our favours just to do the year. But if it did end up being another 25, I don’t mind.”

According to , the actor added: “As long as I’m still happy, that’s all that matters, doesn’t it? As long as you’re still happy.”

This comes after the numerous departures from , which saw a plethora of high-profile exits from notable icons like Helen Worth’s Gail Platt, Sue Cleaver’s Eileen Grimshaw, and Yasmeen Nazir star Shelley King.

In addition to Mason Radcliffe, viewers will soon be forced to bid adieu to more characters.

ITV bosses have agreed to write out characters such as Craig Tinker and Debbie Webster.

While Evelyn Plummer’s Maureen Lipman will scale back to part-time contributions on the long-running series.
