Call the Midwife fans issued urgent statement as showrunners say ‘imagine how we feel’

fans have been given an urgent warning from bosses after a series of online appeared to target them – with showrunners saying, “Imagine how we feel”. On Tuesday (March 12), the official account for the period drama posted an urgent warning to viewers to be wary of potential scam artists.

The post read: “There’s been a marked increase in fraudulent activity in the CTM online space recently – with people trying to trick you into parting with money by pretending to be us, or one of our actors. You can imagine how we feel about this… We’re doing all we can at our end to try and keep you safe – but we also need your help to root them out, report them, and ban them!

“With that in mind, we thought we’d give you a few quick tips so that you can be scam-aware when visiting us online.” The account went on to list various scams – including fake accounts claiming to be actors from the show, including Dr Turner star Stephen McGann. These fake accounts have even tried to extract money from charities – and the real Stephen doesn’t use social media at all.

Other accounts are posing as the show’s casting office and inviting fans to audition as extras on the series – which the account warns is “fraud”, urging fans to “report them and ban them immediately”.

The post urged: “Every OFFICIAL Call the Midwife online site has a web link address on our main and profiles. Go to the top of our page and click on the links. These are the ONLY official CTM sites. Anyone claiming to be official but not on that list is a fraud. If in doubt, just link to our real pages from that list.”

The account further warned fans that they would never be personally contacted with invites, offers, or requests for money. It begged: “Social media companies can sometimes be very slow to stamp down on dubious activity on their sites unless enough people make a fuss.

“So if you see something that’s not right, then do tell us, but also PLEASE REPORT IT! That way we can quickly get rid of the crooks, and get back to our drama!”
