expert Catherine Southon was given the fright of her life by an unexpected item during a visit to the Bakelite Museum in Wilton Somerset.
While perusing the museum’s extensive collection of collectable plastic items on a previous episode of the programme, the auctioneer was taken aback by a surprising prank. Museum owner Patrick Cook was guiding her through the array of historical pieces when he decided to play a little trick.
“You have practical things like telephones and various household gadgets,” he explained to Catherine.
With a mischievous glint, Patrick then said: “And how about this?” as he operated what seemed to be a tie press, only for a tie to unexpectedly shoot out at
Catherine let out a scream before breaking out into laughter.

After regaining her composure, she exclaimed to Patrick: “Oh, my goodness me! I thought that was a snake!” while the proprietor simply laughed at the amusing moment.
The episode followed Catherine and her competitor Philip Serrell, 70, as they continued their quest to find vintage treasures to turn a profit.
At the beginning of the episode, Philip had an edge thanks to some astute antique purchases, but Catherine managed to secure a substantial gain from her selections.
Her eclectic haul included a giant deckchair, a knife, a vaulting horse, a telescope, and an enigmatic olive wheel. Meanwhile, Philip secured a variety of items including ship’s lights and a Georgian commode.

After selecting their antiques, the duo made their way to an auction house in Exeter, only to encounter disappointing results with minimal profits and some losses.
Reflecting on the less-than-stellar outcome, Catherine expressed her frustration to her fellow treasure hunter: “They’re just not with it in Exeter.”
The episode concluded with Philip standing at £321.44 while Catherine trailed with £223.42. Contrary to the numbers, Philip felt that Catherine might have actually come out on top after their previous purchases earlier in the week.
“I think you won by default. You kind of lost. I feel like I’m a man of leisure,” he remarked somewhat jestingly to Catherine. Quick to respond with a playful retort, she fired back: “With my driving, you won’t feel like that for long!”.
