Renowned broadcaster previously revealed a chilling warning from her doctor after she once woke up “covered in blood”. The esteemed journalist recently announced her retirement from Sky News last month after a 36-year tenure.
Speaking to The Times in June 2024, the 64-year-old detailed her hectic morning routine before departing her Knightsbridge flat and heading to Sky’s Millbank studios in southwest London. To present Kay Burley at Breakfast live from 7 a.m. to 10 a.m., the journalist described how she sets her alarm for 3.17 a.m., takes a moment to breathe, and switches on all her lights to ensure she is fully awake.
The mother-of-one emphasised that this wake-up method prevents her blood pressure from plummeting to perilous levels. She said: “The sitting up, taking a breath and putting all the lights on is very, very important because last year I jumped out of bed and, next thing, I woke up covered in blood on the bathroom floor.
“I take medicine to lower my blood pressure and the menopause lowers it further still. Who knew? I got out of bed too quickly and just passed out in the shower.”
Burley disclosed that she sustained a terrible black eye from the incident and had to skip her show due to the injury, reports .

However, her doctor cautioned her that the accident could have been fatal had she struck her head on the door jamb.
“Luckily I hit my head on the wall as I went down because the doctor said if I’d hit the door jamb it would have been Goodnight Vienna,” she explained.
The seasoned journalist, who was among the pioneers to launch Sky News back in 1989, has been fronting the breakfast show since 2019. On a typical morning routine, Burley shared that post-shower, she peruses her briefing notes while tuning into the World Service, all before heading out to anchor her programme.

She signed off her show and stated: “After over a million minutes of live TV news, more than anyone else in the world, it’s time for me to indulge in some of my other passions, including my love for travel.”
Continuing, she added: “So, after covering 12 separate general elections, including Sir ‘s victory last year, I am retiring from Sky News, let politicians of every party just rejoice at that news.”
Addressing her audience, she expressed her gratitude: “Thank-you for waking up and tuning in every morning. I can’t tell you how much I have appreciated your support over the last three-and-a-half decades you’re awesome.”
Closing her heartfelt farewell, she promised: “I will post more on my social media and hope to see you around. Please keep in touch.”
