Sir may have been best known for starring in seven movies as the original big-screen 007. However, the Scottish legend, who died on Halloween 2020 at the age of 90, made many other incredible films across genres. During his career, he starred in four major films after living through the conflict as a boy. Ranked according to film fans on IMDb, John Wayne’s D-Day epic The Longest Day isn’t No 1.
4. Another Time Another Place (1958)
In one of his pre-Bond starring roles, Connery played a war correspondent in 1945 London who has an affair with Lana Turner’s American journalist 10 years his senior.

3. A Bridge Too Far (1977)
Richard Attenborough’s British war epic depicts Operation Market Garden, a failed Allied operation in Nazi-occupied Holland during World War 2. The film’s ensemble cast includes Connery as Major-General Roy Urquhart, along with Michael Caine, Gene Hackman, Anthony Hopkins, Laurence Olivier, Robert Redford, and more.

2. The Longest Day (1962)
John Wayne’s D-Day epic features an all-star ensemble cast including Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum and Richard Burton – . Connery, who shot to fame as Bond in Dr No the same year, played a British infantryman named Private Flanagan.

This World War 2 classic takes place in a North African army prison. Based on the play of the same name, Connery only agreed to star in this character-driven drama as it was a change of pace from Bond.
