Scarlett Johansson Wasn’t Ready For Colin Jost To Go There With This ‘Vulgar’ Joke

Scarlett Johansson says she wasn’t prepared for how “gross” “Saturday Night Live” could get during a wild “Weekend Update” segment from her husband Colin Jost.

Talking to InStyle magazine about the icky joke swap that went viral last December, she said, “It was so vulgar. I just can’t believe that they went there. I was like — it was so gross. It was really gross. And, like, old-school gross.”

During one of Jost and co-host Michael Che’s regular role reversals, Johansson’s husband cracked that “Costco has removed the roast beef sandwich from its menu. But I ain’t trippin. I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”

While the “Avengers” actor was warned to expect some sort of lewd joke ahead of time, she wasn’t ready for “SNL” cameras to try and capture her reaction on camera.

“The fact that it took on a full ‘To Catch a Predator’-style reveal or whatever, that was so intense,” she said, referring to NBC’s notorious criminal sting series.

“All of a sudden, it was like a whole bunch of people holding up lights, and a guy with a video camera. They were waiting for me to react. I felt insane,” she said. “I was like, I think I’m going to faint.”

Johansson told InStyle that she underestimated how low “SNL” would go when she got a heads-up about the gag before the taping.

“I was like, I mean, it’s a vagina joke, how bad could it be?” she recalled. “And then as soon as the Costco photo came up, I was like ‘No! No, Michael!’”

After the ordeal, Johansson said she and Jost both ended up rattled by the crass bit.

When they finally got into bed at 4 a.m. following the late night shoot, she remembered, “I was like, ‘My nerves are shot.’ And Colin said, ‘Me too.’”

After it all went down, Jost admitted that he may have gone too far with the joke swap idea this time.

“I’m in trouble, I think, with a lot of people,” he told Jimmy Fallon during a January appearance on “The Tonight Show.” “Scarlett was genuinely so shocked.”
