Inside the life of The Au Pair’s Lesley Molony including forgotten Coronation Street role

The Au Pair continues on Channel 5 and in episode two, Lydia (played by Lesley Molony) attends Amber’s (Margot Pue) birthday party. Lesley Molony has acting credits dating back to 2015, when she appeared in a few short films.

Her first major role was in the TV series The Inside Man, in which she played Gina Hudson. She has also played two roles in , firstly in May 1998 as Doctor Lamball, who sectioned Zoe Tattersall (Joanne Froggatt) and admitted her for psychiatric treatment following the recent death of her daughter, Shannon (Lucy Whipday).

She returned to the soap in both January and April 2023 as a court clerk for the plea hearings of Max Turner (Paddy Bever) and Blake Myers (Adam Little), and for the plea hearing of Justin Rutherford (Andrew Still). Her other TV credits include roles in Children’s Ward, The Bill, Rough Justice, Peak Practice, The Inside Man, Doctors, Knuckles and The Bay, in which she played Susan Garvey.

Opening up about her stint in the series, which was directed by Endeavour actor Shaun Evans, she said on X: “I had such a lovely time on this, with the super talented @BarrySloane and Dir @Shaun Evans. It was on my wish list as I love the series.”

In 2024 Lesley was hit with a huge loss after the death of a co-star, Myra McFayden. The Mamma Mia! actress had spent two years in the West End production when she landed the role of Elena in the movie.

Lesley had performed alongside Myra in the stage version of the series and she paid tribute to the star, saying: “Myra McFadyen was the loveliest woman multi-talented generous and had the biggest heart.

“We had so many hilarious times on stage in Mamma Mia 2008/9 where she played Rosie. Sad loss indeed.”

As for her personal life, Lesley is mum to two children, Grace and Guy. Her daughter Grace is also an actress who was shortlisted for the Evening Standard Emerging Talent Award in 2019.

Grace’s TV credits include Doctors, Father Brown and The Great, and she has starred in the films Mary Queen of Scots and Artemis Fowl.

Commenting on her latest role in The Au Pair, Lesley said on X: “Very excited about this and it was a great project to be cast in.

“Big love to talented and generous cast and team and Dir @oonaghkearney @ShakyraDowling and my wonderful hardworking and supportive agent Lucy @AtiusManagement.”

She posed in pictures alongside her co-stars Sally Bretton, who plays her on-screen daughter, and Margot Pue.
