Gigi Hadid is used to modeling high fashion on runways around the world, but these days, she’s more inclined to play dress-up and hang out in her rural Pennsylvania home with 4-year-old daughter, Khai.
Hadid opened up about motherhood and co-parenting with her ex, singer Zayn Malik, in a March 11 cover story with Vogue.
“Zayn and I do our custody schedules months in advance,” Hadid said. “That doesn’t mean that it doesn’t change here and there, but we help each other out and have each other’s backs.”
Hadid began dating Malik in 2016 and they were together for six years. They welcomed their only child in September 2020. Hadid is now dating actor Bradley Cooper.
Understanding that she and Malik will forever be in the public eye, Hadid said that the two entered a new phase of their relationship with “love, and a feeling of camaraderie.”
She said, “At the end of the day, we’re not interested in giving everyone our whole story. What we are interested in is raising our daughter together, with so much respect for each other, and not just as co-parents, but what we’ve been through together.”
Her home in Pennsylvania is a far cry from her chic urban lifestyle. She and Khai talk to frogs, create fairy villages and make pottery with clay they scoop from a backyard stream. And of course her craft room is stocked with pom-poms, ice-pop sticks and googly eyes.
“I joke with my mom friends that I feel like the Hannah Montana of fashion,” Hadid said of her double life as a supermodel and regular mom. The line gets blurred, however, when it comes to sharing her daughter on social media.
“I don’t think it would be fully genuine to post nothing of Khai,” she said, “but I also don’t want to put anything up that would take away from her privacy and her peace.”
Boundaries are much more clear when it comes to how she spends her time with Khai.
