BBC Bargain Hunt host makes quip after team ends up suffering massive loss

One Bargain Hunt team faced a major disappointment as they suffered a huge loss and ended the competition in the minus.

During Tuesday’s (March 11) episode of the hit show, hosted by Natasha Raskin Sharp, saw her venture to Doune, Perthshire, as two teams of antiques fans battled it out in an attempt to make some profit.

The Blue team, composed of friends Darren and Kenny, who are both football coaches and they enlisted the expertise of antiques expert Danny Sebastian.

With a generous budget of £350 to hand, they embarked on a quest for distinctive treasures that could earn them a substantial profit.

Their hunt for three items and one had to have a sporting connection. In the end they bought a colourful glass bowl for £35, a bronze golfing figure, that ticked off their bit spend and sporting connection challenge as it was priced at a whopping £180. Continuing the gold theme, their final item was a whisky decanter for £18.

It was time for the showdown at the auction house and the duo made sure to leave some spare cash for Danny’s bonus buy.

However the blue team faced a setback at the auction with their selected treasures as their first item made them a loss of £15 after it was only sold for £20.

Moving onto their big spend, the pair had high hopes for their £180 item but yet again they were left disappointed as it sold for £100, meaning they made another huge loss.

Natasha looked disappointed as she turned to the dup and said: “Oh, gentlemen. Now that’s a loss of £80. However their Whisky decanter performed a little bit better making them a profit of £2 after it was sold for £20.

In an attempt to make the boys some money Danny’s bounce buy was a mid-20th century toasting fork that was bought for £10 and he claimed that it would be sold for double. However they went on to break even and they ended with a deficit of -£93.

Natasha couldn’t help but point out: “I heard a rumour that you were telling the Reds that you’re off to the Maldives?” She contined:”Well Blues you’ll be paying for them yourselves because our winners are the Reds.”

Making light of the situation she added: “Well that’s a whooping deal, if you find a flight for minus £93. Oh, Blues, you just wanted it to be an eagle but it was a bogey.”

Bargain Hunt airs weekdays at 12:15pm on One.
