is launching a major change that will see some of its products sold by a charity across the country.

The supermarket giant will reportedly provide middle aisle items to Salvation Army at a reduced cost in two-year partnership with the organisation.

It will see non-food “Specialbuys” including kitchen accessories, home furnishings and clothing resold at the charity’s branches.

The profits generated by The Salvation Army, a Protestant Christian church and an international charity, will help fund the support it provides in the community, as per industry outlet .

The move follows a year-long trial partnership which saw the Salvation Army raising more than £350,000 by selling the supermarket’s Specialbuys, the outlet reports.

Kirk Bradley, The Salvation Army’s head of corporate partnerships said: “We are delighted to partner with Aldi to offer some of its products in our stores.

“This partnership will contribute to providing a vital funding source for our charity as well as great-quality products to our customers across the UK.”

Aldi national sustainability director Luke Emery said: “We’re committed to doing all that we can to support our local communities and it’s great to be able to support The Salvation Army stock their stores.

“We know the profits raised will provide vital funds for the charity to continue its ongoing work to support those who need it most across the country,” he added.

Aldi also passed on surplus food to charities across the UK as part of a long-term partnership with Neighbourly, a surplus redistribution platform, as per the outlet.

Aldi has donated more than 40 million meals to local communities since the food donations initiative was launched in 2019.

Salvation Army Trading Company Ltd (SATCoL), the trading arm of The Salvation Army in the UK and Republic of Ireland, has 240 charity shops and donation centres, as well as a nationwide network of clothing banks. 

According to its website, the charity “helps those experiencing homelessness and potential victims of human trafficking, we well as support for the emergency services at times of crisis and more”.
