Fans of season one enjoyed nine episodes, yet this installment has been tightened, offering only a seven-episode arc, reports .
Showrunner Craig Mazin said: “The story material that we got from Part 2 of the game is way more than the story material that was in the first game, so part of what we had to do from the start was figure out how to tell that story across seasons.
“When you do that, you look for natural breakpoints, and as we laid it out, this season, the [natural] breakpoint felt like it came after seven episodes.”
With no official word on whether a third season will come to fruition, signs seem positive, especially considering the present show’s structure and Craig’s previous insights.

The official synopsis for part two reveals: “Five years after their dangerous journey across the post-pandemic United States, Ellie and Joel have settled down in Jackson, Wyoming. Living amongst a thriving community of survivors has allowed them peace and stability, despite the constant threat of the infected and other, more desperate survivors.
“When a violent event disrupts that peace, Ellie embarks on a relentless journey to carry out justice and find closure. As she hunts those responsible one by one, she is confronted with the devastating physical and emotional repercussions of her actions.”
The Last of Us season 2 will be available to stream in the UK on 14 April on Sky Atlantic or NOW TV.
