Sir Jim Ratcliffe has claimed the Manchester United squad is littered with players who are “overpaid” and “not good enough”. The INEOS chief has been in charge of United for over a year, with criticisms about his ownership having began to surface.

Ratcliffe and his INEOS chums had opted to keep former United boss in the summer, despite calls for the Dutchman to be sacked. Ten Hag was eventually let go from his role as manager nine Premier League matches into the season, with Amorim parachuted in from Portuguese outfit Sporting.

The change of manager hasn’t had the desired effect, with United currently finding themselves 14th in the table and, with 10 matches of the season left to play, on course for their worst-ever Premier League finish. Having already been knocked out of the FA Cup, it means ‘s side will likely only qualify for Europe next season if they win the Europa League this year.

Speaking in an interview with Sport, the billionaire said: “If you look at the players we are buying this summer, that we didn’t buy, we’re buying Antony, we’re buying Casemiro, we’re buying Onana, we’re buying Hojlund, we’re buying Sancho. These are all things from the past, whether we like it or not, we’ve inherited those things and have to sort that out.

“For Sancho, who now plays for and we pay half his wages, we’re paying £17m to buy him in the summer.”
