Following the bombshell news that Amazon MGM Studios now has total creative control of the film franchise, many fans now believe anything could happen.

Nevertheless, there’s never been an American actor who’s starred in the role officially, even though Barry Nelson played Jimmy Bond in a 1954 TV adaptation of Casino Royale.

Yet new Elvis star , has seen his odds at Coral bookmakers slashed from 10-1 to 3-1 in the last 24 hours.

The 33-year-old Oscar nominee isn’t the only American star to rise up the bookies favourites list since the Amazon news.

Coral’s John Hill said: “Since the switch to Amazon, we have seen strong support for American actors to play . Elvis star Austin Butler is the latest to attract interest, and he is now 3-1 second favourite for the role.” Although Theo James remains this bookies’ favourite to take up the Licence to Kill next on 5-2, Timothée Chalamet is now just behind Butler on 7-2. Also in the odds race, which should be taken with a grain of salt, are: James Norton and on 4-1, Josh O’Connor on 5-1, Callum Turner on 6-1 and both Henry Cavill and Jack Lowden on 8-1.
