Following the orchestration of the devastating 9/11 terror attacks in 2001, which sparked a decade-long global manhunt and ultimately led to his capture and demise in 2011, a new docuseries explores the life of Osama Bin Laden.
The three-part documentary, American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden, delves into the exhaustive ten-year search for one of the world’s most notorious fugitives.
As the documentary gains traction on after its release on March 10, we examine the intricacies of Bin Laden’s family life.
In 1974, at just 17 years old, Osama married his first wife, Najwa Ghanem, in Latakia, Syria. Notably, Najwa was Osama’s first cousin, as their mothers were sisters, and she was only 14 at the time of their union.

The couple welcomed their first child, a son named Abdullah, two years after their marriage. They went on to have ten more children: Abdul Rahman, Saad, Omar, Osman, Mohammed, Fatima, Iman, Ladin “Bakr”, Rukhaiya, and Nour.
Osama and Najwa eventually separated, with Najwa leaving Afghanistan on September 9, 2001, mere days before the 9/11 attacks.
Tragically, their third child, Saad, born in 1979, was killed in a drone strike in 2009, just two years prior to his father’s capture and subsequent death.Bin Laden’s other recognised wives include Khadijah Sharif, whom he wed in 1983 and divorced in the 90s, Khairiah Sabar (married in 1985), Siham Sabar (married in 1987) and Amal al-Sadah, who became his wife in 2000.
There have also been reports suggesting that Bin Laden had a sixth wife, but their marriage was reportedly annulled shortly after the ceremony.

It is believed that Bin Laden fathered 26 children with all his wives, although it has never been definitively disclosed which children were born to which wife, apart from Najwa.
Nasser al-Bahri, who served as Osama’s personal bodyguard from 1997 to 2001, provided an insight into what his boss was like as a father in his memoir.
He portrayed him as a thrifty man and a very strict father, who relished taking his large family on shooting excursions and picnics in the desert.
