Netflix has just released a gripping new three-part docuseries, American Manhunt: Osama Bin Laden. The series delves into the nine-year global manhunt for the infamous Islamic extremist.
The documentary features interviews with key US government figures who played pivotal roles in the pursuit and provides an in-depth analysis of the decade-long hunt for one of history’s most notorious terrorists.
Bin Laden orchestrated the horrific September 11 attacks in 2001, where Al-Qaeda hijacked four planes, crashing them into the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon, resulting in the tragic loss of nearly 3,000 lives.
On October 10, 2001, Bin Laden was placed on the FBI’s top 22 Most Wanted Terrorists list as an international search to locate him commenced.

In the following six years, Al-Qaeda continued to release time-sensitive videos proving that Bin Laden was still alive, where he claimed sole responsibility for the 9/11 attacks.
Finally, on May 2, 2011, Bin Laden was killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan by a U.S. military special operations unit.
The operation, dubbed Operation Neptune Spear, was ordered by then-US president Barack Obama in April 2011 and executed by a team of U.S. Navy SEALs from the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group in a CIA-led operation.
The assault on his hideout in Abbottabad was initiated from Afghanistan and following the operation, it was reported that U.S. forces transported his body to Afghanistan for positive identification, before conducting a sea burial in line with Islamic law, all within 24 hours of his demise.

On June 15, 2011, U.S. federal prosecutors formally dismissed all criminal charges against Bin Laden. It was widely circulated that the extremist was fatally injured by US Navy Seal Robert J. O’Neill, however, this was largely debunked by witnesses who suggested Osama may have already been dead prior to Robert’s arrival.
Navy SEAL Matt Bissonnette recounts that he was hit by two bullets to the side of his head from ten feet away as he peeked out of his bedroom doorway at Bissonnette and a point man.
They revealed that once the Navy SEALs entered the room, his body started convulsing and Bissonnette along with another SEAL reacted by discharging multiple rounds into his chest.
