Many people do not realise they need to clean their washing machine door, but the rubber seal can become a breeding ground for bacteria and . Moisture often becomes trapped inside the door, which will clog with grime if it is not wiped down regularly.
If you do not the door, it can cause your clothes to become smelly even if you have just washed them, and the rubber seal can eventually begin to deteriorate, so the washing machine door will not close properly.

However, the cleaning experts at have shared that cleaning the washing machine door is incredibly easy and can be an effortless chore if you use a dishwasher tablet.
They said: “You may be surprised, but you can use a dishwasher tablet to clean the washing machine! Even your trusty washing machine needs a little cleaning now and then. To do this, simply toss a tablet into the drum of an empty washing machine, and run a hot cycle.”
It may seem bizarre, but dishwasher tablets have been designed to cut through grease and other tough residues which makes it great at also cleaning out a washing machine.
Dishwasher tablets contain enzymes and other components that can help break down mould, but they are gentle enough not to damage the rubber seal.

How to use a dishwasher tablet to remove mould from the washing machine
To begin, simply place a dishwasher tablet directly into the washing machine drum. Make sure to only use a standard tablet and not a gel or a liquid.
Then, place the washing machine on a hot water cycle that is at least 60C. This will help dissolve the tablet and break down the bacteria inside the machine.
Once the wash cycle is done, open the door and use a clean, damp cloth to wipe down any residue on the seal, and the mould comes away easily.
Use another cloth to dry the seal, and make sure to keep the washing machine door open after doing laundry in the future to prevent moisture from building up in the seal.
Your washing machine door should now be completely clean without any mould or horrible smells inside the drum.
