B.C. crime news: Charges laid after cop injured during traffic stop

A Vancouver man has been charged after a B.C. highway patrol officer was seriously hurt a year ago during a traffic stop in Delta.

On the morning of Feb. 17, 2024, the officer spotted a driving offence on Highway 91 near 72nd Avenue. The driver of a Nissan Versa allegedly left the scene.

During the interaction, the officer was hurt and is still recovering from his injuries.

After an investigation, the B.C. Prosecution Service laid three criminal charges and a Motor Vehicle Act offence against 57-year-old Tobin Haas: assaulting a police officer with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, resisting or obstructing an officer and driving with a suspended licence.

Haas is due in provincial court in Surrey on April 1.
