A statement from the FSAI warned: “The above batch of Tesco Garlic Powder contains peanut which is not mentioned on the label.

“This may make the batch unsafe for consumers who are allergic to or intolerant of peanut and therefore, these consumers should not eat the implicated batch.”

Shoppers are being advised to check their cupboards and avoid using the product if they have a peanut allergy, as consuming even small amounts of the allergen could trigger a reaction.

Peanut allergies can cause severe symptoms, including swelling, itching, difficulty breathing, and anaphylaxis – a potentially life-threatening reaction that requires immediate medical attention.

The NHS advises anyone experiencing anaphylaxis symptoms such as trouble breathing, dizziness, or loss of consciousness to call 999 immediately and state it is a suspected anaphylactic shock.

Tesco has asked customers to return the affected batch to any store for a full refund, even if they don’t have a receipt.

This is the latest in a series of product recalls affecting Tesco in recent months.

Just last week, Baxter’s Sliced Gherkins Crunchy & Sweet, sold in Tesco for £2.50, was recalled over concerns it contained undeclared mustard, which could be dangerous for those with allergies.

Meanwhile, in February, the FSAI recalled 18 Irish cheeses made by JOD Food Products, some of which were stocked at Tesco, due to potential health risks.

Last year, the supermarket also recalled its Plant Chef ‘Melt in the Middle’ Burgers after a warning from the Food Standards Agency (FSA) that they could retain high temperatures after cooking and cause burns.

Anyone with concerns about the Tesco Garlic Powder recall is advised to visit the FSAI website or contact Tesco’s customer service team.
