could potentially . Launched back in 2006 and originally running until 2014, the celebrity ice-skating competition made a triumphant return in 2018. Despite being a staple in ITV’s yearly line-up since its revival, the show is now in jeopardy. Recent figures have shown a worrisome downward trend, with an all-time low of just 2.9 million viewers for one episode in 2024, plummeting from the 3.6 million who had tuned in for the season’s start. The decline continued into 2025, seeing the launch episode’s audience remain at 2.9 million and dropping to a chilly 2.4 million by its fifth week.
Based on BARB’s official overnight data, Dancing on Ice has shed over a million fans in two years, from a peak of 4.1 million in 2023 to struggling to reach 3 million this series. Insiders fear that if the numbers do not pick up, the upcoming finale might be the last twirl on the rink for the well-loved show.

A source disclosed to Mirror Online: “There are very real fears this is the end of the road for Dancing on Ice. It’s had a good run for nearly 20 years and has a very loyal set of viewers who really love it but the sad truth is there’s just not enough of them. We need bums on seats but the ratings have dropped to a point where it’s difficult to justify the cost.”, reports .
ITV has broken silence on the fate of Dancing on Ice, as a spokesperson told Mirror Online: “The Dancing on Ice team is fully concentrating on the much anticipated series finale this coming Sunday and therefore no decision has been made.”
With ratings in mind, when accounting for catch-up views, the show has pulled in an average of 3million viewers throughout its current season, getting a boost from 3.6m streams on ITVX.
Hosted by Holly Willoughby and Stephen Mulhern this year, the show witnessed 12 celebrities lace up their skates. The finale will feature ‘s Sam Aston, Springwatch icon Michaela Strachan, and ex-footballer Anton Ferdinand.
Judges Christopher Dean, Jayne Torvill, Oti Mabuse, and Ashley Banjo are set to scrutinise Sunday’s finale acts. Furthermore, the iconic skating duo Torvill and Dean have announced their retirement after their 2025 live tour, marking the end of an era.
Their farewell tour, titled ‘Torvill and Dean: Our Last Dance’, is slated to commence at London’s OVO Arena Wembley on 12 April and will journey through Belfast, Sheffield, Nottingham, Birmingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool, and Glasgow.
