An experienced travel personality has taken to to urge all to take care when to prevent illness from ruining their holiday.
Cruise ships are almost always a foodie’s idea of heaven, featuring a wide range of restaurants and an all-you-can-eat buffet that is typically open throughout the day.
However, in a for the YouTube channel , travel expert Angie Vognild urged passengers to keep their hands clean, particularly when .
She advised: “Whilst it’s suggested that everyone washes their hands before entering the buffet, it is unlikely that everyone is going to scrub with soap and water before filling their plates with food.
“Personally, I like to wash my hands before entering the buffet and after grabbing my food.”

Whilst a constantly stocked buffet is something many tourists love about taking a holiday on board a cruise ship, the high volume of passengers using it could create a risk of bacteria on shared items like serving tongs.
To prevent germs from causing illnesses, passengers should always wash their hands with soap and water or use hand sanitising gel before they enter the buffet and, ideally, before they begin eating their meal.
Almost all cruise lines will have members of staff near the entrances of all restaurants in order to make sure that guests have cleaned their hands before their meal.

Later in the video, Angie recommended that passengers take similar precautions when getting an ice cream, with many ships featuring a self-serve machine on an open deck.
She added: “Similarly, on ships where the soft-serve is self-serve, you’ll want to make sure that, before digging in, you’ve sanitised the hands that touched the lever.
“This is because there are a lot of hands, including those of children, that have touched the lever before you, and you have no way of telling if they’re clean or not. You could also use a napkin when using serving yourself, or use a bowl.”
Finally, no matter where they are dining, Angie suggested that cruise passengers should how much they eat on board.
She continued: “In general, you should monitor what you eat. It’s tempting and easy to go overboard while on a cruise when you have seemingly unlimited food options.
“Before heading up to the buffet for a second plate, consider whether you’re just eating because you can, or if you’re actually hungry for more. The last thing you want to have on your vacation is an upset stomach.”
