B.C. crime news: Murder charge in 2021 slaying in 70 Mile House | Two charged in fatal hit and run seven years ago

Here’s a roundup of crime news from around Metro Vancouver and B.C. on Sunday, March 9, 2025

A murder charge has been laid against a 64-year-old Vancouver man in the death of The-Thanh (Ted) Nguyen four years ago on a remote property near 70 Mile House.

The 52-year-old was found unresponsive on Dec. 26, 2021, in the 2600-block of Komori Road. When police arrived, Nguyen was lying at the door way of an outbuilding at the residence and he died there despite life-saving efforts by paramedics.

A suspect was arrested soon after as he fled south through Clinton. The man was released the next day without charge.

After a lengthy investigation, Chinh Duc Vu was charged with second-degree murder on Friday and taken into custody without incident.

“The securing of charge approval was the culmination of the tireless efforts involving investigators from the southeast district major crime unit, B.C. RCMP forensic identification services, E-Division headquarters and the Burnaby RCMP,” said RCMP Staff Sgt. Jason Smart the officer in charge of the regional crime unit.

Vu is being held until his first court appearance on April 3 in Kamloops.

Two charged in fatal 2018 pedestrian crash

Charges have been laid against two men in a fatal hit and run seven years ago.

In the early hours of Nov. 18, 2018, Cameron Kerr was walking along Highway 16 just west of Terrace when he was hit by a westbound vehicle. It’s alleged his body rolled into the ditch, where he was found later that day by a passerby.

The B.C. RCMP highway patrol identified suspects from evidence left at the scene and tips from the public. Arrests were made but no charges were laid.

The RCMP major crime special projects unit took over the case and two men from Surrey are now facing several charges.

Taylor Stogryn, 36, and Conrad Wierzbicki, 34, have been charged with indignity to human remains and obstructing justice. Stogryn has also been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident. Both are due in court in the near future.

“This was a very complex investigation and I am proud of the work of our skilled investigators to bring us to this important point,” said Insp. Mike Kim of the major crime unit. “I want to acknowledge and thank Cameron’s family, and the community, for their patience as we took the necessary time to gather the evidence and advance our investigation.”
