Hannah Berner apologizes to Megan Thee Stallion for ‘careless choice of words’ to describe her music

Hannah Berner is responding to the backlash she received after her interview with Megan Thee Stallion.

The comedian’s conversation with the Grammy-winning rapper went viral due to how she described Megan’s music while at Vanity Fair’s Oscar party on March 2.

While on the red carpet with Paige DeSorbo, Berner told the “Mamushi” rapper how much she loved her music.

“No, your music has literally — when I want to fight someone, I listen to your music,” Berner excitedly said.

Megan replied, “Because you want to throw that fighting s— out the window and you want to get cute and be a bad b—-.”

Berner then said, “When people are talking s—, I go, ‘Turn on Megan Thee Stallion!’”

Some of the people in the comments section of Vanity Fair’s TikTok were not happy with the way Berner reacted to interviewing Megan.

“Very micro aggressive. Megs music isn’t about fighting and the fangirling is a spectacle,” one person wrote.

Another person added, “talking over her, unable to keep their composure, calling her violent when she never raps about violence (& is actually a victim of violence), hmmmm.”

In 2023, rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting Megan in the foot and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

More TikTok users noted that Megan “never raps about fighting” and alleged Berner and DeSorbo didn’t “let her answer the questions.”

Days later, the “Giggly Squad” podcast host responded to the backlash, apologizing for her choice of words.

“Interviewing Megan Thee Stallion was a dream of mine. I love her music and It’s my go to whenever I need to boost my confidence before a show,” Berner wrote on her Instagramstory on March 6. “Looking back at the interview, I wish I used any other word except ‘fight’ to describe how her songs impact me.”

The former “Summer House” star wrote that it was a “careless choice of words” and “there was no ill intent.”

“I recognize and acknowledge that what I said has a deeper meaning and I am so sorry to Megan. I appreciate everyone who brought this to my attention,” she continued.

Megan has yet to respond to the viral moment. TODAY.com is reaching out to Megan for comment.

Back in March 2022, the rapper did share her feelings about fighting in an interview with Genius about the meaning behind her song “B.I.T.C.H.”

“My God, let me tell you fighting is so ugly,” she said. “Look, OK, nails long. Girls is paying $80 to get their nails done. $100.”
