In January, Colson spoke out about being axed from the soap, admitting he wasn’t feeling “too confident” about his contract being renewed.

Speaking on his On The Sofa With Colson, Jack, And Ben podcast, the actor confessed he was forced to keep his departure a secret after learning of his character’s fate months prior.

He recalled: “As an actor, especially on a soap, we’re all on year-long contracts so you always know when your renewal time is coming up. I’d had a couple of chats with you two where I said I wasn’t feeling too confident about this renewal period. I just had a feeling that the tide had slightly changed for Craig and had changed for the character, so I said I had a feeling.”

Colson continued: “And then I remember I got a phone call on a Monday night from the bosses PA saying can you have a meeting tomorrow night at 7pm. The first thing I did was I rang Ben and I said it is happening and it’s happening tomorrow night.”

Jack P. Shepherd and Ben Price, who play David Platt and Nick Tilsley, sat in the waiting room while Colson had a meeting with bosses. Once inside, Colson recalled how producer Kate Brooks said it was going to be a “really hard conversation”.

Colson said: “The hardest bit was walking down the stairs knowing you two were there. I just stood in the doorway of the green room and just looked at you two.”

He added: “The thing I’m going to miss more than anything in the world isn’t Craig Tinker, it’s the green room. I have learned everything about life in that building. Every good day I’ve had in my life and every bad day I’ve had in my life, I’ve been in there.”

Despite his sudden axe, Colson said that he has loved “every single second” of his time on the soap and feels “incredibly lucky” to have been a part of it since he joined in 2011.
