Candy had been friends with Betty Gore for some time but was secretly having an affair with her husband, Allan Gore. The situation escalated when Candy reportedly offered to take Betty’s daughter Alisa to a swimming lesson after the girl had spent the night at her house.
Candy visited Betty’s house to pick up Alisa’s swimsuit, which led to a confrontation and subsequent extensive court case.
A plot summary from Hulu states: “Candy Montgomery is a 1980 housewife and mother who did everything right-good husband, two kids, nice house, even the careful planning and execution of transgressions-but when the pressure of conformity builds within her, her actions scream for just a bit of freedom.

The series Candy: A Death in Texas bears similarities to Love and Death, which also explored the same case with Elizabeth Olsen portraying Candy and Jesse Plemons as Allan Gore.

Candy: A Death in Texas comprises of five episodes, all of which will be aired on Channel 4.
The first two episodes will be broadcast from 9pm on Saturday (March 8), followed by the next two episodes from 9pm the following day (Sunday, March 9). The final episode will air at 11.10pm on Monday (March 10).
All episodes will be available for streaming on Channel 4’s streaming service.

Jessica Biel takes the lead role as Candy Montgomery, a Texas homemaker and businesswoman who embarks on an affair with her friend Betty Gore’s husband, leading to Betty’s murder after the affair is revealed.
Jessica Biel’s previous roles include Stealth, the Total Recall remake, The Illusionist and The Sinner.
Melanie Lynskey, known for her roles in Flags of our Fathers, The Perks of Being A Wallflower and Yellowjackets, portrays Betty Gore, a schoolteacher and homemaker who was tragically killed by her friend Candy after confronting her about an affair with her husband. Pablo Schreiber, recognised for his roles in the Paramount Plus series Halo, American Gods and Orange is the New Black, plays Allan Gore, Betty’s husband who had a long-standing affair with Candy.
Comedian and actor Timothy Simons, previously seen in Veep, Nothing Wants This and The Interview, takes on the role of Pat Montgomery, Candy’s husband. Pop icon and actor Justin Timberlake also features in the series as Deputy Steve Deffibaugh.
