Two men were charged on Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter and drug counts in connection with the 2024 deaths of three Kansas City Chiefs fans whose bodies were found outside of a home where they were watching a game, authorities said.
Jordan Willis and Ivory Carson face three counts of involuntary manslaughter and counts of delivery of a controlled substance, according to a copy of an arrest warrant obtained by NBC News.
Police found the bodies of Ricky Johnson, 38, Clayton McGeeney, 36, and David Harrington, 37, outside of a home in Missouri, two days after they got together to watch the Chiefs play the Los Angeles Chargers on Jan. 7, 2024.
The three men, who had been friends since high school, were found to have died of combined cocaine and fentanyl toxicity, NBC News reported, citing autopsy reports.
“After an investigation of nearly 14 months, two suspects are now facing felony charges in Platte County, including involuntary manslaughter, related to the deaths of three Chiefs fans in January of 2024,” the Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department said in statement on March 5.
“KCPD detectives never stopped working on the case, waiting for all the facts to come in,” the statement continued. “Reaching this point is a testament to their dedication to delivering justice for the victims and their loved ones.”
Platte County Prosecutor Eric Zahnd said during a press conference on March 5 that police responded to Willis’ home in Missouri on Jan. 9, 2024, after McGeeney’s fiancée went to the residence to look for him when she had not been able to get in contact with him.
She found one dead body on the back patio of the home, and officers later found two other bodies in the backyard, Zahnd said. Temperatures dropped below freezing on the night of the Chiefs game, according to Zahnd.
After obtaining a search warrant for the home, investigators found two plastic bags containing white, powdery substances, Zahnd said. Testing determined one of the bags contained cocaine and the other bag contained fentanyl, Zahnd said.
A probable cause statement alleged Willis was determined to be the “major contributor of DNA” found on the bag of cocaine, and that Carson was determined to be the “major contributor of DNA” on the bag of fentanyl, Zahnd said.
Carson is being held on a $100,000 case bond, and Willis has told authorities he plans to turn himself in and post a $100,000 case bond, according to Zahnd.
