Walkers relaunches Worcester Sauce crisps with fanfare in Worcester

Crisp enthusiasts queued up to get their hands on a packet of Worcester Sauce flavour crisps the first on sale since Walkers discontinued them in 2023.

Shoppers were overjoyed to discover that the crisps, flavoured with the authentic Worcestershire Sauce from Lea & Perrin condiment itself, were back on the shelves, albeit for a limited time.

The eager crisp lovers formed a queue outside Charlie’s Convenience Store on Barbourne Road, in the Cathedral city of Worcester – the only shop currently stocking the crisps.

The store is managed by 31 year old Gubir Singh, affectionately known as Gav to locals, whose family took ownership of the shop in 2019.

Speaking about the relaunch, Gav expressed: “I was honoured to be asked to help relaunch the Worcester Sauce flavour crisps. I’m playing a pivotal moment in the city’s history – I’d just encourage people to pay us a visit while stocks last.”

In a grand celebration of the return of Walkers’ much-loved Worcester Sauce flavour crisps, a striking six-metre inflatable replica of the iconic purple packet was launched down the River Severn on a barge.

The city of Worcester was flooded with the announcement through mobile billboards, sandwich boards, and branded beer mats all across the city.

Some die-hard Worcester fans had even journeyed all the way from Glasgow to taste the first few packets fresh off the production line. While four superfans were invited to be among the first to grab a bag.

One superfan, Katie Barnes from Kent, said: “Today’s my 28th birthday and what better way to celebrate. I’ve been waiting years for this moment.”

She added,”I used to constantly go on about the Worcester Sauce flavour. I took a day off work and travelled over 150 miles to secure the goods – it’s the best birthday present ever.”

Irina Panescu from Walkers, added: “We’re bringing back our iconic Worcester Sauce flavoured crisps, and this time they’re even more Worcestershire-y with the help from our friends at Lea & Perrins.

“We’re sorry to disappoint fans but it’s only right that our limited supply is reserved for the people of Worcester. We’ve been floored by the reception from the locals as we painted the town purple.”
