VW’s ID. Every1 previews future sub-$35,000 EV

The compact electric offers 250 km of battery range and is powered by a 94-hp motor good for 130 km/h

  • Volkswagen just unveiled the ID.Every1, a budget-friendly EV designed for European markets
  • The concept car features a 94-hp motor, 250-km battery range, and over-the-air software updates
  • The ID.Every1 previews a sub-$35,000 production EV due 2027—though it likely won’t come to Canada

As the images clearly show, the ID.Every1 is, well, not big. It measures 3,880 mm (152.7 inches) in length, slotting between the discontinued Up! and the current Polo. It can seat four passengers; and has a luggage capacity of 305 litres.

Powered by a newly developed 70-kW (94-hp) electric motor, the vehicle has a top speed of 130 km/h (80 mph) and an estimated minimum battery range of 250 km (155 miles). Volkswagen’s updated software architecture will allow the production version to receive over-the-air updates throughout its life cycle.

Volkswagen’s long-term strategy involves a three-phase plan. The first phase focuses on strengthening the company’s competitive position. By 2027, nine new models, including the ID.2all and the production version of the ID.Every1, will be launched. Volkswagen has also emphasized affordability and accessibility in its EV strategy. CEO Thomas Schäfer highlighted the company’s goal of offering a wide range of vehicles for different customers.
