UK maps suggest a 400-mile wall of rain and snow is set to batter Britain from the Atlantic Ocean later this month. The forecast by WXCharts.com, which uses Met Desk data, shows the front making its way towards the country’s west coast on the evening of March 16 before smashing into the country in the early hours of March 17.
The weather, which could stretch from the north of Scotland to the South Coast will see the majority of the country hit by the deluge. According to WXCharts.com, as much as 15mm per hour could fall throughout the day on March 17, bringing a wet start to the British spring. , Manchester , Cardiff and Plymouth are amongst the cities likely to see the heaviest rain as it sweeps down the spine of the country, although coastal regions will likely also be hit.

The rain will come at the end of a wet week, which could even see snowfall in large parts of Scotland.
Weather data for March 14 shows much of Scotland covered white with freezing conditions and snow posing the potential for travel disruption in eight cities.
A long range forecast for the period of March 9 to 18 predicts: “How weather patterns evolve during the following week is unclear but there is an increased chance that high pressure will become more dominant for a time from the north. This would result in a good deal of dry weather but also lead to a downturn in temperatures with a low chance of a colder spell and wintery hazards.
“Low confidence by the end of the period but with an increasing chance of milder but more unsettled conditions developing again.”

The warns that following the wet conditions, weather is set to remain bleak for much of March.
Their forecast for 19 March – 2 Apr stated: “Confidence is low in prevailing weather patterns through this period. There is likely to be a mixture of unsettled and settled spells with unsettled slightly favoured initially and settled slightly more probable later.
“As is typical, parts of the west and northwest will probably be wetter overall with drier conditions in the southeast.
“Above average temperatures are more likely than below though some colder spells remain possible during late March.”
