Traffic alert: SkyTrain construction to close section of Fraser Highway

The closure will allow for the construction of the new Green Timbers Station, which is an elevated SkyTrain station that will service the new Surrey Langley SkyTrain.

A section of Fraser Highway will close for seven months this year to allow for SkyTrain construction.

The stretch of Fraser Highway extends from 140 Street to 96 Avenue and will close beginning April 1. Vehicle lanes, sidewalks and multi-use pathways are all included in the closure.

A stretch of Fraser Highway from 140 Street to 96 Avenue will fully close beginning April 1 and extend until the end of October 2025. Vehicle lanes, sidewalks and multi-use pathways are all included in the closure.

The $6-billion, 16 kilometre, above ground extension of the Expo Line along the Fraser Highway will have eight new stations and terminate at 203rd Street in Langley City.

The extension is due to be completed in late 2029, a year later than the original completion date of late 2028. The project’s cost had also increased, from $4 billion to $5.996 billion after awarded contracts were updated due to market conditions, inflation and key commodity price escalation, supply-chain pressures and labour-market challenges.

Work to be conducted in the area during the seven-month closure includes installing new utilities to supply power to the station and rail, foundation construction, guideway installation, and station construction. The station will be positioned directly above the highway.

The work and closure of Fraser Highway is expected to conclude at the end of October 2025.

During construction, drivers and other road users are asked to use 96 Avenue as an alternate route.

In addition to the full closure, intermittent overnight closures of the travel lanes along Fraser Highway, between 96 Avenue and 148 Street, will also be implemented as needed. The closures will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. on dates to be determined.

Drivers in the area during the overnight closures will be asked to use 96 Avenue via 148 Street.
