Outlander’s Sam Heughan ‘very emotional’ as he issues update on last ever season

Outlander sensation Sam Heughan has been overwhelmed with emotion as he wrapped up his last work on the beloved Starz show’s eighth and final season.

Known for his captivating portrayal of Jamie Fraser, a role that he’s assumed for more than ten years opposite Caitriona Balfe as Claire, his time-travelling wife, Heughan has become synonymous with the character.

Although principal photography concluded last year, with fans eagerly awaiting the 2025 release, both Heughan and Balfe have been putting the finishing touches on the production.

On Tuesday, 5th March, the Scottish actor shared an update with his followers on revealing that he completed his last Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) session at Universal Studios.

“Well, that’s it,” he announced to his dedicated fanbase.

“The last ADR on Outlander completed on the Universal lot.”

Heughan expressed his excitement and promised an emotionally charged finale, saying: “Very emotional and very excited for the fans to see the final episode. It’s going to be quite… quite an emotional one. But I know you’re gonna love it.”

He poignantly concluded his message with a heartfelt goodbye to his iconic character, “Thank you Jamie.”

As news spread, fans expressed their own deep emotions, facing the impending end of an era. One fan encapsulated the collective sentiment, replying, “Wow, what a bittersweet feeling! Thank you @samheughan for bringing Jamie to life like no one else ever could have.”

They continued with heartfelt thanks, “We are forever grateful, you were truly the perfect JAMMF!” Meanwhile, another fan predicted a tearful response from the fanbase: “O my gosh. If it’s emotional for you, in the know, we all will be a total mess,” they conceded.

One ardent fan gushed, tormented by the idea of saying farewell to their beloved series: “No I’m not ready to let go!! Literally can’t wait for season 8 but don’t want it to be over yet either!! Outlander is my favorite show and the books too.”

The emotional tide continued with another viewer revealing, “I am tearing up just watching this! I will be crying so much next season, especially once it is over! Thank you for your fantastic portrayal of Jamie!”

And touching on a shared sentiment, yet another admirer confessed, “Everyone’s crying right? Not just me?”

As Outlander gears up for its final season, devotees will have ten more episodes to treasure. These will draw from Diana Gabaldon’s ninth book, Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone, and even include parts of her yet-to-be-published tenth instalment.

Season seven wrapped up in January, leaving fans gripping the edge of their seats as Claire miraculously survived a near-certain demise at the Battle of Monmouth along with shocking family discoveries.

While the curtain may be drawing close with Outlander’s eighth season, fans have the consolation of an impending prequel, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, chronicling the lives of Claire and Jamie’s parents, to eagerly anticipate.

Outlander is streaming on MGM+ via Prime Video.
