China has warned the US it is ready for “any type of war” after slapped the nation with crippling trade tariffs.
The war of words broke out after President Trump’s order to raise tariffs on imports of Chinese products to 20% across the board. A range of Chinese goods were already subject to 10-25% tariffs levied by Trump during his first term.
China’s foreign affairs ministry said: “If war is what the US wants, be it a tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war, we’re ready to fight till the end.”
China responded to new US tariffs by announcing it would impose additional tariffs of up to 15% on imports of key US farm products, including chicken, pork, soy and beef, and expanded controls on doing business with key US companies.
