Birthday wishes are in order for filmmaker Sam Taylor-Johnson, and her husband, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, is first in line!
The 34-year-old actor posted a special birthday tribute to his wife on Instagram Tuesday, March 4, as she celebrated her 58th birthday. In it, Aaron Taylor-Johnson wished his wife a happy birthday while sharing six photos of the couple.
“Happy birthday gorgeous!” he wrote. “Love spending every moment with you.”
The couple, who married in 2012, originally met when he auditioned to play John Lennon in the 2009 film “Nowhere Boy.” Aaron Taylor-Johnson told The Telegraph in 2019 that upon meeting the director, he new immediately that he found his “soulmate.”
“I knew instantly that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with this person,” he said. He proposed exactly one year later.
“I remember it very well, and a year to the day after I met her I proposed. I knew I wanted a family with her, I knew I wanted kids, and a month later she was pregnant with our first child,” he told The Telegraph.
The couple welcomed their first child, a daughter named Wylda Rae, in July 2010. In January 2012, they welcomed their second daughter, Romy Hero, and they married in June of the same year. Sam Taylor-Johnson shares two additional daughters, Angelica Jopling and Jessie Phoenix Jopling, with her ex-husband, art dealer Jay Jopling.
The 23-year age difference between Sam and Aaron Taylor-Johnson has not been an issue, she has explained in interviews.
“We’re a bit of an anomaly, but it’s that thing: after 14 years you just think, surely by now it doesn’t really matter?” she told The Guardian in April 2024.
“If I had been cynical for a second, it wouldn’t have worked. If I had questioned anything, it would never have worked. I’m quite instinctual. I’ve gone feet first into everything in my life. I’m always, ‘This seems amazing’, and I jump straight in and go through the experience, whether good or bad,” she said.
