“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart on Monday called “bullshit” on tech billionaire Elon Musk, who proposed an interview on the show, then seemed to back away from it.
Stewart last week slammed Musk’s DOGE government cost-cutting effort ― and opened up a bloody wound on a his finger in the process ― for targeting everyday workers and relatively low-cost programs instead of taking on the big industries reaping billions in taxpayer subsidies.
Musk afterward said on X that he would come on the show for an interview if they promised to run it unedited.
“The Daily Show” quickly accepted, and Stewart on Monday said the interview could be as long as Musk wants and they’d still air the whole thing.
“I’ll be honest, I don’t think this network makes any other programming, so we can do whatever the fuck we want as long as we wrap before the new season of South Park, which comes out like May or June of 2026.” Stewart said.
But Musk ― who only last year called Stewart “awesome” ― seemed to quickly back off his offer, repeatedly attacking the “Daily Show” host as “very far left” and a “propagandist.”
“Jon is too set in his ways. He used to be more bipartisan,” Musk wrote in one of his followups.
Stewart fired back: “The guy who custom-made his own dark MAGA hat that he wears to opine in the Oval Office with the president who he spent $270 million to elect thinks I’m just too partisan.”
Stewart said he supports a more efficient government, and repeated his offer to do the interview that Musk had proposed.
“If you want to come on and talk about it on the show, great. If you don’t want to, sure,” he said. “But can we just drop the pretense that you won’t do it because I don’t measure up to the standards of neutral discourse that you demand and display at all times? Because, quite frankly, that’s bullshit. You know it. I know it. Bullshit.”
