A woman’s bag of chicken nuggets she bought from Walmart seemed to be missing a key ingredient — the chicken.
On Feb. 20, TikToker Amanda Reed posted a video about a curious cooking experience she had one evening while preparing dinner for her family.
“Excuse me Walmart, where is the chicken in my Great Value chicken nuggs,” Reed wrote in the caption of her video. “Signed, Overstimmied and Underfed.”
In the video, she slices into a nugget only to reveal that it’s literally just breading — it’s completely hollow. She cuts two other nuggets during the clip to reveal the same thing: chicken nuggets, hold the chicken.
And it’s clear that, before Reed started filming, she cut into many more of the meatless bites, because we can see a plastic container full of breaded disappointment in the background.
“These are gonna need a lot of sauce @Walmart,” Reed wrote in her caption.
Reed’s clip garnered over 4.4 million views and thousands of hilarious comments. Here is a selection:
- “They’re just low-calorie 😂”
- “thats been happening to us too! we airfry our walmart nuggets and its more like chicken ghost nuggets”
- “But you could stuff them with so many things!!”
- “Look on the bright side! U can either enjoy them as mini chicken cups or… fill them with ur favorite cheese!😂😂😂”
- “That crunch though. I’m not complaining”
- “👀Depression nuggets filled with hope[s] and dreams. Buy now at local Walmart and you too can have a spiral of a time eating [them]!🤣”
- “That’s THE great value idk what to tell u”
- “at least you know they are cooked in the middle”
And Reed isn’t the only person to post on social media about finding no chicken in their Walmart nuggets. At least two others have posted on TikTok — in December and January — about their unfulfilling experiences with the Great Value item.
For its part, Walmart says it’s aware of the product mishap.
“We are committed to providing our customers with quality items at great prices,” a Walmart representative tells TODAY.com in an email. “We recently learned that some of our Great Value Chicken Nuggets have not met our quality standards and are working closely with our suppliers to resolve it. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
Reed, who is a busy mother of four, says she’s still in shock —and not because of the nuggets.
“I just can’t believe how angry people are in general over the nuggets; I just thought it was a funny video,” Reed tells TODAY.com, adding that the nuggets were intended to be packed with her oldest son’s lunch for school that day, so she had to think on her feet.
“He’s a ‘beige diet’ kid, so nuggets are kind of a go-to lunch item,” Reed says. “I ended up needing to cook up some large chicken patties to cut up, and we ran late that day.”
Reed notes that Walmart hasn’t reached out to her about her chickenless nugget experience, but she’s continuing to enjoy her comments section.
