Sky News sparks viewer fury after Steve Bannon issues one-word insult at Zelensky

After winning, he helped the White House and continued advising Trump throughout his first term in office. But he didn’t last long, and in 2018 he left Trump’s orbit to return to Breitbart – the right-wing news platform he helped found. Bannon continued to support and help Trumpist political candidates in addition to those of a similar vein in Europe. He has long-courted controversy and ended up in prison after failing to comply with the January 6 Capitol riots inquiry in Congress.

On Tuesday (March 4), Ali Fortescue welcomed ’s former chief strategist on to her evening politics show, The Politics Hub, and it didn’t take long before he sparked backlash online.

The politician described the Republican leader’s new strategy as a “brilliant” move after he pulled the plug on American military assistance to . Sharing his disapproval of the Ukrainian leader, he branded Zelensky a “punk” and admitted he finds him “offensive”.

He fumed: “Zelenskyy is untrustworthy. He’s a crook and a punk. And he showed what a punk he was in the Oval Office the other day. He should never be allowed back in. I don’t think he should ever be allowed back in to the United States.”

Despite sharing his disapproval of the Ukranian leader, he admitted that he doesn’t trust either. He told the broadcaster: “He’s ex-KGB, he’s not trustworthy. The rapprochement of the US with breaks the control of the Chinese Communist Party – it’s a brilliant stroke.”

Steve claimed that the EU “will come along with it” and insisted that Trump is “going out of his way to be a peacemaker”. He went on to warn the UK and Europe to “wake up” and realise that they do not have to be worried about invading the rest of Europe because they don’t have the army to do it.

It didn’t take long before fans flooded to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their disappointment at Bannon’s appearance on the evening show online. One user penned: “@SkyNews why give Steve Bannon air time? He’s a nasty piece of work” as another fumed: “Steve Bannon has just been on Sky. It doesn’t get more right wing than him.”

A third echoed: “#SkyNews Steve Bannon and Andrea Jenkyns you’ve certainly scrapped the barrel tonight… [two face-palm emojis].” A fourth argued: “Why have you just had Steve Bannon on Sky? He’s a vile, conspiracy theorist. You think Ali Fortescue can deal with him? This is a low for Sky News.”

A fifth quipped: “I just listened to Steve Bannon on Sky. It proved there is someone stupider, ruder, more obnoxious and bigger liar than JD Vance… and that takes some doing!! And he backs Farage!”
