You might believe that only the priciest serums and skincare products can give you flawless skin, but what you drink matters too.
By making a few simple changes to your choices, you could see a noticeable improvement in your skin’s appearance.
An expert has uncovered three everyday that could be sabotaging your skin’s health without you realising it.
Sam Cinkir of Este Medical Group said: “The wrong drinks can lead to dehydration, inflammation, and a breakdown of collagen – all of which accelerate the ageing process.
“If you want younger-looking skin, it’s not just about what you put on your face – it’s about what you put into your body too.”

For many, coffee is a daily essential, but too much caffeine can leave skin looking tired, dull, and dry, according to the expert.
Caffeine can trigger cortisol, a stress hormone, which increases the production of oil thereby leading to breakouts.
Cinkir said: “Coffee is a diuretic, meaning it makes your body lose water. Dehydrated skin loses plumpness and elasticity, making fine lines and wrinkles more pronounced.
“Limit coffee to one or two cups a day and drink plenty of water alongside it. For a gentler alternative, try green tea, which still has caffeine but is rich in antioxidants.”

Cinkir also said that the regular drinking of alcohol is one of the fastest ways to age your skin prematurely as it dehydrated both your body and your skin and over time will break down the two proteins that keep skin firm and glowing- collagen and elastin.
Sugary soft drinks like fizzy drinks and energy drinks are another culprit as they contribute to glycation, a process that weakens collagen, causing sagging and fine lines.
These drinks can also trigger inflammation, leaving skin red and puffy.
A healthier alternative includes water with lemon or herbal teas, which hydrate and flush out toxins.
The expert emphasised that hydration is the ‘foundation’ to good skin and we should drink at least two litres a day to help keep skin plump and fresh.
