Seth Meyers said Monday that Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-S.C.) astonishing 180 on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is “evidence of how spineless and amoral the Republican Party has become.”
The “Late Night” comedian urged viewers to “watch the transformation” of Donald Trump acolyte Graham “from two weeks ago, when he effusively praised Zelenskyy, to Friday when he called on Zelenskyy to resign” following the latter’s blowout Oval Office meeting with the U.S. president.
Meyers aired one clip of Graham telling Zelensky, “I want to tell you and your people: You’re the ally I’ve been hoping for all my life.”
He then broadcast a second in which Graham said: “I don’t know if Zelenskyy can ever get you to where you want to go with the United States. Either he dramatically changes or you need to get somebody new.”
Meyers called the GOP response “dispiriting.”
But the lack of one from Democrats was almost as bad, he added.
