The on-screen chemistry between actors John Cusack and Ione Skye in the 1989 film “Say Anything” apparently crossed over into real life.
In her new memoir, “Say Everything,” Skye dishes on what it was like to make the classic rom-com and on her relationship with Cusack.
Skye has long claimed that while she and Cusack had crushes on each other while making the film, they never hooked up during production.
However, Skye admits in the book she and Cusack finally got together after her 2000 divorce from Beastie Boy Adam Horovitz.
“I had to get it out of my system,” she said in a book excerpt published in People.
Although Skye let Cusack read a draft of her memoir before it was published, she admits he wasn’t totally thrilled with her memory of their brief encounter.
“You made the experience sound so meh! It wasn’t ‘meh’ for me,” she says he told her.
Skye said she told him she was “telling a story, and it was more about how all of our chemistry was in our working together and stimulating each other’s minds, not sleeping together!”
She admitted she “felt a little bad,” at his reaction, but added, “Oh well.”
One ex-boyfriend Skye didn’t let read the book in advance is Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis, whom she dated when she was 16 and he was 24.
Kiedis was dealing with a heroin addiction while dating Skye, who got an abortion after he got her pregnant, People reports.
“I’m not in touch with him,” she told People, and admitted she’s a little nervous at what he’ll think about the book.
Although Skye had no problem showing the book to musician Ben Lee, her husband of 15 years, he did have some concerns.

“I don’t think anything ruffled his feathers except that I spent so much time ruminating on a lot of the early chapters, and then by the time I got to the end and his chapters, I was sort of rushing through it,” she told People. “And he was like, wait a minute, wait a minute. I’ve been by your side this whole time and you can’t rush through my part!”
