Manchester United have re-opened talks with Kobbie Mainoo in the hope of finally reaching an agreement for a new contract, according to reports. Mainoo has been locked in prolonged negotiations with his boyhood club over improved terms on his £20,000-a-week deal until 2027, which he signed in February 2023.

The two parties previously put talks on hold as United tread carefully in and INEOS’ active push to lower the wage bill. Reports claimed that would lead the race for Mainoo’s signature if the Red Devils decided to cash in on the academy graduate to help comply with financial regulations. However, is now said to be pushing to tie down the 19-year-old midfielder, indicating he views him as a part of his plans.

According to , United and Mainoo have held fresh discussions over a new contract but will need to find a compromise over his salary demands.

It’s claimed that Mainoo is demanding a jaw-dropping pay rise to around £180,000 a week plus bonuses to reflect on his status as an important first-team player and England international.

But United are believed to be hopeful of convincing the dynamic midfield maestro that his long-term future is best placed at Old Trafford.

The report adds that a potential sale of Mainoo would represent a significant financial boost, given his status as a homegrown player.
