Lewis Hamilton told he was “so truly proud” of her after she accused the media of ‘bullying’ her in an explosive statement. and Brown have been friendly for some time after the Formula One driver took her on a lap around the Circuit of the Americas back in 2018. The Stranger Things actress took to social media to call out specific reports of her appearance and fashion choices, stating that the words used were “disturbing” and that she won’t be “shamed” into changing herself.

In the lengthy post, which was accompanied by a video of discussing the situation, the 21-year-old wrote: “I want to take a moment to address something that I think is bigger than just me, something that affects every young woman who grows up under public scrutiny. I think it’s necessary to speak up about this. I started in this industry when I was 10 years old. I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me. Instead, they act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on Stranger Things Season 1. And because I don’t, I’m now a target.”

Brown went on to list some of the headlines she found fault with regarding her appearance, stating they weren’t “journalism” and were actually “bullying.” In particular, Brown called out British actor for “mocking” her appearance in one article that claimed she had had a “mommy makeover.”

Brown went on: “We always talk about supporting and uplifting young women, but when the time comes, it seems easier to tear them down for clicks. Disillusioned people can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman on her terms, not theirs. I refuse to apologize for growing up. I refuse to make myself smaller to fit the unrealistic expectations of people who can’t handle seeing a girl become a woman. I will not be shamed for how I look, how I dress, or how I present myself.”

The actress finished by asking the media to “do better”, and asked them to “pay a compliment” rather than just a “knee-jerk reaction to say something horrible”. Following this statement, Hamilton was one of many celebrities to reach out and show support to Brown, responding on : “So truly proud of you Millie.”

The British driver was first introduced to Brown when she was 14 years old and was becoming a big success on the set of ‘s Stranger Things as the main character ‘Eleven’.

Hamilton himself was a big fan of the television series and even joked to Brown on her 15th birthday if she could help speed up the release of the third season. He said: “Happy 15th Birthday Millie. So proud of you, dying for season 3 so tell the team to hurry up lol have an amazing day.”

Meanwhile, Brown, who is married to Jake Bongiovi – son of Jon Bon Jovi – also received an apology from comedian Lucas after he had compared the actress to one of his Little Britain characters.

Lucas wrote “no but yeah but” alongside an X post featuring pictures of Brown, referring to the fictional teenager Vicky Pollard that the 50-year-old played in Little Britain.

The actor claimed that Brown’s hoop earrings and pink top prompted him to spot “the similarity by posting one of her [Vicky’s] catchphrases”.

In a grovelling apology, Lucas said: “Dear Millie, I just saw your post and wanted to respond, and provide some context. Nearly 25 years ago I co-wrote and appeared in a sketch show called Little Britain. There was a character in it called Vicky Pollard, who had blonde hair and always wore a pink top, and in the photo you had blonde hair and wore a pink top so I pointed out the similarity by posting one of her catchphrases.

“I thought you looked terrific and I was mortified when the press wrote that I ‘slammed’ you, firstly because that’s not my style, and secondly because I think you’re brilliant. I would not have posted it if I had thought it would have upset you but I realise it has and for that I apologise.”
