Last week’s episode of Waterloo Road saw a shocking attack on new headteacher Stella Drake that left the staff and pupils in complete disbelief. Following a heated argument, Stacey Neville’s mum Gemma pushed her former headteacher down the stairs before fleeing the scene of the crime.

After being caught with Stella’s lifeless body in her arms and blood all over her, Stacey protested her innocence and said it wasn’t her who carried out the attack. Deciding not to lie for her mother, the student came clean, which led to Gemma being arrested by the police.

Speaking about what’s to come for Stacey, actress Tillie Amartey has revealed: “She has a lot more cemented friendships, maybe relationships, who knows where they could blossom to? That’s all I’m going to say. Her connections with characters definitely grow and cement.”

The beginning of the episode revealed Stacey’s home life to not be so great as she showed concerns over her mum having a man stay over and not having any food in. This is the first time the show has explored the character’s life outside of school and things went from bad to worse when she was accused of pushing Stella during a stampede in the corridor.

Revealing what it was like delving into Stacey’s life, Tillie explained: “It was great because it gives my slightly lighthearted side a bit more substance, now the audience know why I might be snapping at a teacher, tired or hungry because my mum’s not fed me.

“It was great filming those scenes because it showcases my acting skills, that I can do comedic and light hearted and also to show that it’s not always you see is what you get.

“She might come across as this great, confident girl but there’s a lot going on underneath that,” she divulged.

Outside of the show, Tillie is supporting the Department of Education on their Skills for Life campaign which is encouraging productive conversations between teenagers and their family members about their next steps in life.

She explained: “Any time you’re around family, it can be a poignant question of what’s the next step, I just thought the Skills for Life website was so important and it’s actually a great tool for both parties, for adults and teenagers.
