For the AWD trims standard in Canada, a new front EV motor likely means a 12-hp bump and a 16-km-plus range increase
- Honda’s updating its Prologue EV for 2025, with the biggest change being a new front power unit
- That refreshed motor sees the horsepower in AWD trims jump up 12 ponies, to 300 hp total
- Battery range has been improved, too, by between 16 and 20 km in AWD models
In fact, Honda says the EPA rating for a top-class 2025 Prologue has increased by 12 miles (19 kilometres) while and output ratings of single-motor two-wheel-drive models increase to 220 horsepower (up eight) and 243 lb-ft of torque (an increase of seven).
However, it’s the all-wheel-drive models in which Canadians should be more interested, since that is presently the standard configuration of Prologue EVs in this country. Available in three trims on this side of the border – EX, EX-L, and Touring – the 2024 models made 288 hp and 333 tq. Going forward, Honda says these numbers will jump to 300 ponies and 355 lb-ft of twist, increases of 12 and 25, respectively.
As for estimated driving range on a full battery in these all-wheel-drive models, look for an improvement of between 16 and 20 kilometres in total, depending on trim level. That could push official estimates to somewhere in the range of 470 kilometres.
At present, the Prologue can only be found at select dealerships in the provinces of British Columbia, Ontario, and Quebec. For the 2024 model year, its introductory season, the entry-level EX was priced at $49,990 plus fees. It was a ten-grand walk from that sum to its top-rung Touring trim. Federal incentives and rebate cash has dried up for electric vehicles in recent weeks, a development which will surely dent overall sales numbers, which are generally released at the end of each financial quarter.
