Jack Whitehall has revealed how his father, Michael, a former TV producer was issued a warning from his boss after making an unfourtunate on-screen blunder when he was just nine-years-old.
Speaking on a recent episode of the Making A Scene podcast with comedy duo David Walliams and Matt Lucas, the 36-year-old gave an insight into his first acting role, admitting that it didn’t exactly go according to plan.
Recalling how he was given the opportunity to feature in a TV show produced by his dad, he said: “There was a show that my dad was a producer on, and he put me in it. It was Noah’s Ark, it was about a vet, on ITV.”

But, it wasn’t meant to be for the young actor, after nerves got the better of him as he ‘screwed-up’ his one line in the show, so much so, his part was later dubbed over, using another child’s voice.
And, Jack’s unfourtunate mistake even landed his dad with a warning, as he added: “The head of ITV had to have a word with my dad as well and said ‘you have to stop casting your family in these because they can’t act’.”
Jack’s role in the 1990s ITV series wasn’t his first attempt at acting, as he revealed that he auditioned for the role of Harry Potter, but due to it being evident that he hadn’t read the book and him not being “very good” during a performative part of the audition, he failed to grasp his chance at landing the much-coveted role.

But, despite his early setback Jack would later embark on a career in stand-up comedy before later returning to television when, with the help of his ‘comedy big brother’, James Corden, he landed a role presenting Big Brother’s Big Mouth, which he started in 2008 and presented for two series.
With a slew of presenting roles to follow, including appearances on the likes of A League of Their Own and Have I Got News for You, Jack has gone on to forge a successful career in acting having featured in the likes of Fresh Meat and Bad Education.
Jack is set to host the BRIT Awards tonight on ITV1 at 8.15pm.
