Chef, author and judge on the , Prue Leith, has shared her for roast potatoes. A staple of any roast dinner, everyone has their own method for cooking them – but the restauranteur’s method has divided opinions.

According to the 85-year-old, she’s often asked asked how to make the “perfect roast potatoes”, and she decided to share her “classic” method online. Prue explained that these “absolutely gorgeous roast potatoes” are perfect for your next roast dinner.

First, she explained that you should “boil them until they are a bit cooked around the outside, put them back in the pan with the lid on, and then “give it a mighty great shake”. “You’re just trying to rough up the edges,” she explained.

Then the Bake Off star did something which has provoked strong opinions from her followers on – she added a handful of breadbrumbs in with the potatoes and added melted butter.

To finish them off, Prue added them into the oven “until they are nice and brown and crisp”.

Taking to the comment section, one baffled viewer wrote: “Breaded potatoes.” Another said: “Nope, no breadcrumbs necessary.” A third wrote: “Never heard of using breadcrumbs on roast potatoes.”

However, others were big fans of her method. One person wrote: “These are the best potatoes I’ve ever had! Couldn’t stop eating them. They took about 40 min in the oven. 400F [200C]. Sprinkled with fresh thyme when done.”

Another said: “Ohhĥ. breadcrumbs, good idea. I have always used cornflower.” “what clever idea! Thank you,” said another.

There are many different ways to make roast potatoes. Recently, his method for the “best roast potatoes” by adding a simple ingredient – bicarbonate of soda.

In a video, he explained: “Add your potatoes to cold water with salt, bicarbonate of soda and parboil. Meanwhile, take a chicken stock cube, add oil and combine.

“Pour clarified butter onto a baking tray and place into the oven until hot. Then add the potatoes, garlic, rosemary, thyme the stock oil and season.”

He said you should mix all the ingredients together before roasting them for 25 minutes. Then turn them and roast them for another 25 minutes.
