To use it to kill weeds, simply mix one tablespoon with water and pour it onto the weeds.

The expert added: “It’s best to use this method on individual weeds in between slabs and bricks as the salt water can ruin soil and surrounding plants.”

The mixture will work to dehydrate and damage the plant’s tissues, which will “kill” them, according to the expert.

Table salt will work just fine, and it can be picked up for as little as 30p from various supermarkets.

Make sure to carry this out when the weather is dry; otherwise, the rain will wash the homemade solution away.

Investigate them after a couple of days and simply pull up the weeds and dispose of them, reapplying the solution if needed.

Chris explained: “Slugs and snails can be really damaging to a gardener, and a lot of people struggle to keep them away.

“Sprinkling salt around the base of your plants is a really great way to keep them from destroying your hard work. This will create a barrier that they’ll be too scared to cross.

“It’s not just slugs; if you have an ant problem, salt can also help keep these insects away.”
